Uber Rolls Out Innovative Cab Rental Service UberHIRE in 8 Indian Cities
World’s leading cab aggregator Uber has launched an innovative car rental service UberHIRE in 8 Indian Cities yesterday (6th February 2017).
The company that became a game-changer in the travel industry has taken this strategic step to counter attack Ola Rental which was launched last year. This India-first innovation service allows users to hire a cab for up to 12 hours. The cost is calculated on hour basis, and travellers are allowed to make multiple stop overs during the travel.
First launched in Kochi, now it has been extended to New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Vizag and Nagpur, and meanwhile more cities are on the Uber’s strategy table to be started. Following the trend, an increased number of entrepreneurs are jumping into cab aggregation businesses, so the development cost of Uber like app got skyrocketed.
The minimum fare on UberHIRE would be Rs 449-649 ($7- $10) depending on the city for two hours and up to 30 kilometers (18.6 miles). And beyond that, it will charge Rs 2 per minute and Rs 12 (17 cents) per kilometre. This India-first innovation by Uber is cash-only service at the moment.
Commenting on the new service, Apurva Dalal, the Head of Engineering, Uber India, said “UberHIRE addresses the unique commuting needs of riders in India, especially that of tourists, business travellers, senior citizens, and working professionals by letting them book an Uber and use it for up to 12 hours.”
Last year, Uber extended its bike-sharing service ‘UberMOTO’ to more cities, and prior to that, the company had offered offline cab booking service ‘Dial an Uber’. Meanwhile, this game-changing travel company is all set to launch food-delivery service ‘UberEATS’ in India. This is already a big hit in Silicon Valley and other USA cities.
Thinking to start Uber like business?
You might be right. As the market is still huge for Uber like businesses, it would be a right step if you take it now. As Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka once quoted, the e-commerce services like Uber have a huge opportunity in India because there is a tremendous embrace of the digital. It’s a young country, it’s a young work force and huge opportunities are there. It is not just limited to India, globally it is a much needed service.
