BYOD in Enterprise Environment

BYOD (bring your own device) is a modern policy in enterprise environment, which allows employees to bring their personal devices (laptops, tablets, and smart phones) to their workplace, and to use those devices to access to the company’s privileged applications or information in order to do the work.

BYOD in different names:

BYOD is also called BYOT (bring your own technology), BYOP (bring your own phone), and BYOPC (bring your own PC). The primary goal of BYOD is to decrease the expense spent on devices and to allow employees to have a personalized working experience, which can result into increased business growth, achieved through enhanced employee productivity and high return on investment.

BYOD in enterprise mobile app environment:

BYOD has jumped to the next level, with the use of smartphone applications in easily performing different tasks involved in enterprise business process like CRM (customer relationship management), ERP (enterprise resource planning), and EMS (enterprise messaging systems). Enterprise mobile app is also used to integrate different applications dedicated to different departments. This method is called Enterprise Application Integration (EAI).

Major reasons that forced enterprises to adopt BYOD in mobile app environment:

Cost on devices:

Investing on hundreds or thousands of devices at once is generally a burden for any organization. BYOD approach avoids organization from being invested on devices, and helps in saving huge amount of money that they can invest in other much needed business operations.

Cost on app development:

This is another major factor that forced enterprise to embrace BYOD. Generally all the employees can’t be having the same OS powered smartphones or tablets. In this situation, developing a separate app for each platform (iOS, Android, Windows etc.) is a burden for organization. To avoid this, BYOD is being preferred. It is productive when the companies prefer the cross-platform enterprise app development only, in which the app is developed for one operating system and allowed to use on any OS enabled device.

Enhanced Employee Productivity:

Instead of assigning employees to work with office devices, allowing them to do office works in their own devices is considered as a fruitful way to enhance employee productivity. Because, it can turn the pain of work burden into a joy in working.

Study on BYOD:

According to a study on BYOD, the Middle East has one of the highest adoption rates (about 80%) in BYOD. Brazil, Russia, India, and Malaysia are in the next places, accounting around 75% adoption rate.
